After many years as Officer Commanding 1334 Flt Lt Janet Brown has stepped down from being in charge of 1334 Manningtree Squadron ATC.

The new Officer Commanding is Flt Lt Ralph Appleby who has been in command of 2470 Sudbury Squadron for 20 years although he has lived in Manningtree all that time.

Flt Lt Appleby is no stranger to 1334. not only did his family pass through as cadets but he, himself joined as a cadet in 1972 returning as a Civilian Instructor in 1982. He then went into uniform and was commissioned in 1982. A short time later, in 2003, he found himself at 2470 Sudbury Squadron ATC which was around a forty mile trip, twice a week, for twenty years.

He brings a wealth of experience and capability to 1334 which reinforced and fills gaps in the skill set with the existing Staff. He is a Skill at Arms Instructor, Adventure Training Instructor, Radio instructor and is keen to see the Squadron showing the success that he fostered at Sudbury.

Cadets have warmed to the new OC and are looking forward to the many opportunities that Flt Lt Appleby brings to 1334 and he has already made a start with the Duke of Edinburgh's scheme for which he is an assessor.

The former OC Flt Lt Brown has taken over the role of Adjutant and is performing the administrative roles within the Squadron, as she did previously, as well as being OC. Flt Lt Cheeseman relinquishes the Adjutant post giving her more time to concentrate on her skills of shooting, fieldcraft and teaching.
