Three cadets from Manningtree Squadron (Cdt Burch, Cdt Townsend and Sgt Barham) were selected along side 7 others to represent the Norfolk and Suffolk Wing at the STEM weekend, at the Welbeck Defence 6th Form College. I was fortunate to be one of them. The competitors consisted of: Air Cadets, Army Cadets, Sea Cadets and CCF from all around the UK. This was a great chance to show our Wing’s capabilities! We arrived on Friday not knowing what challenges we were to face. After an early breakfast, the weekends challenges were revealed to us. As well as working closely in a team, we had to display our individual leadership skills to ensure we worked as efficiently as possible to earn as many points as we could. Some of the activities included: Orienteering, Vehicle Recovery, Leadership tasks, First aid, Wall Climbing, Code breaking, Obstacle Course and Trim Trail.

My favourite activities of the weekend were the climbing and Leadership tasks. This weekend, I met new people, developed new skills and tried things that I would never get the opportunity to do anywhere else.

To top the weekend off our team came joint 4th (out of 25) and were the highest placed Air Cadet team.

I would highly recommend this and any other Air Cadet Camp.
